Yeah, it's been forever.
Sorry.
Just saw Dia Frampton on The Voice, which lead to a lot of video searching, which lead to a lot of music listening, which lead to a reread of that myspace blog post. Yeah, this one .
Anyway that blog lead to a lot of thinking, and weird feelings, and looking back. I love Dia Frampton, and I'd love her for the stuff she writes even if she didn't know how to sing. Because she writes strangely upbeat songs about "Brave New World", and thinks about not belonging to religion and falls so spectacularly in love that it leaves me doubting that I've ever been in love at all. And she goes... a lot.
So yeah. I actually like Meg's songwriting better, it's kind of like of looking in a mirror and seeing who I always wanted to be. But there's something about Dia, something vulnerable and raw and strong and wildly talented, and combustible, that reminds of someone I once desperately wanted to stay in love with.
Found a blog post from four years ago on "Something Real", here . "Here, Here, and Here" was one of my favorite albums of the 09. It's something that you can actually hear the courage coming from, and something I can draw my own from. The courage to go on, to do what needs to be done, to accept and to stand up.
I don't really care if Dia wins the thing or not. It's just a show, just like so many shows out there. All I care is people hear her, get her. Sign a label that gives them the dough and the freedom. Promotes them like they deserve.
I don't care. Keep singing. Keep your ears open.
